Carpentry and Joinery
Apprenticeships are training programmes for 16-24 year olds who have left education or are already in employment. They offer young people the opportunity to start their career through a combination of learning options and work experience. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential; you will also undertake an initial assessment and diagnostic testing.

Follow one of the optional routes:
Site Carpentry Option (any three from the following)
- Installing First Fixing Components
- Installing Second Fixing Components
- Erecting Structural Carcassing Components
- Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work
- Set Up and Use Circular Saws
Bench Joinery Option (any two from the following)
- Set Up and Use Circular Saws
- Produce Setting Out Details for Routine Products
- Mark Out from Setting Out Details for Routine Products
- Manufacture Routine Products
Enhancements
Produce timber and timber based products (circular saw)
Assessment:
Continuous assessment and a portfolio of evidence.Technical Certificates - Wood Occupations Diploma - Site/Bench
This is a new Diploma that provides a broad knowledge, understanding and skill training to become qualified within Carpentry & Joinery. The qualification is aimed at those individuals wishing to join the construction industry as Carpenter & Joinery.
This diploma replaces the Intermediate Construction Award (ICA) to comply with the Sector Skills Council (SSC) requirement for broader training, as defined in the Construction Qualification Strategy (CQS)
Functional Skills
All apprenticeships now require you to achieve qualifications in Functional Skills (instead of Key Skills). These will be at level 1 or 2 depending on the particular apprenticeship scheme you are taking. Functional skills are in Mathematics, English and ICT and these will build on the skills you have developed previously. With the exception of English speaking and listening which is assessed internally, assessment will be by externally set examinations and opportunities to take these are available at regular intervals throughout your apprenticeship.
