General Construction
Apprenticeships are nationally designed training programmes funded for 16+ years who have left education or are already in employment. They offer the opportunity to start a career through a combination of learning options and work experience. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are looked for although full initial assessment and diagnostic testing is undertaken.

Continuous assessment plus a portfolio of evidence to relate to General ConstructionTechnical Certificates - Level 2 Diploma
This is a new Diploma that provides a broad knowledge, understanding and skill training to become qualified within Brickwork. The qualification is aimed at those individuals wishing to join the construction industry.
This diploma replaces the Intermediate Construction Award (ICA) to comply with the Sector Skills Council (SSC) requirement for broader training, as defined in the Construction Qualification Strategy (CQS).
Enhancements - Additional Units
Using Abrasive Wheels - which ensures that the learner can use the equipment safely to sharpen tools they regularly use in their occupation.
Functional Skills
All apprenticeships now require you to achieve qualifications in Functional Skills (instead of Key Skills). These will be at level 1 or 2 depending on the particular apprenticeship scheme you are taking. Functional skills are in Mathematics, English and ICT and these will build on the skills you have developed previously. With the exception of English speaking and listening which is assessed internally, assessment will be by externally set examinations and opportunities to take these are available at regular intervals throughout your apprenticeship.
