Business & Administration
Apprenticeships are nationally designed training programmes funded for 16+ years that have left education or are already in employment. They offer the opportunity to start a career through a combination of learning options and work experience. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are looked for although full initial assessment and diagnostic testing is undertaken.

Course Content:
The qualification consists of 5 units in total, 2 mandatory and 3 optional units.
Mandatory Units
Carrying out your responsibilities at work
Working with your business environment
Optional units choose 3 units
Ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
Maintaining customer relations
Managing diary systems
Organising business travel accommodation
Dealing with visitors
Processing customer financial transactions
Operating credit control procedures
Storing, retrieve and archive information
Researching and report information
Organising and support meetings
Using IT systems - Level 2
Using IT to exchange information - Level 2
Word processing software - Level 2
Spreadsheet software
Database software - Level 2
Presentation software
Specialist or bespoke software - Level 2
Using a telephone system
Operating office equipment
Preparing text form notes
Preparing text from shorthand
Preparing text from recorded audio instruction
Producing documents
Working effectively with other people
Assessment:
An individual learning plan will guide you through the units with support and feedback from your trainer. Action plans will also be drawn up to advise on what type of evidence to collect.
Technical certificate
This is a business-based qualification that focuses on the underpinning knowledge and understanding of Business Organisations and People needed by administrators. Assessment is via external examination.
Functional Skills
All apprenticeships now require you to achieve qualifications in Functional Skills (instead of Key Skills). These will be at level 1 or 2 depending on the particular apprenticeship scheme you are taking. Functional skills are in Mathematics, English and ICT and these will build on the skills you have developed previously. With the exception of English speaking and listening which is assessed internally, assessment will be by externally set examinations and opportunities to take these are available at regular intervals throughout your apprenticeship.
