On the 10th November 2017, our Principal and Chief Executive Dr Nigel Leigh OBE attended his investiture at Buckingham Palace. Nigel received his OBE from The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, along with approximately 70 other recipients of honours.

Nigel said, “The investiture was a very special day which will live in my memory and the memories of my family. The event was conducted with 'military precision' in a large, ornate room within Buckingham Palace.

"Following my instructions, I approached Prince William, who said, 'Stephenson College?' We then went on to talk about our college specialisms and of the challenges associated with recruiting women into engineering. His first words to me however reminded me of why I was there, as a representative of our college.

"It is the efforts of the Stephenson Community that have been recognised in an honour of which I have been lucky enough to be the beneficiary. I will never forget the contributions everyone has made to make this possible and I would like everyone to know how appreciative I am of those efforts. Thank you.”

Gordon Tacey – Chair of the Stephenson College Corporation shared his thoughts: “We are proud to congratulate Nigel on his well deserved award.

"The award of the OBE marks Nigel's contribution to the Further Education Sector particularly in respect of his involvement in the development of apprenticeships across the sector.

"Under his leadership Stephenson College has gone from strength to strength, delivering award winning apprenticeships and raising students' aspirations.”
