Entry Requirements

> Appropriate subject qualification/experience in the subject they intend to teach
> Working towards level 2 Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT
> Access to 30 hours teaching practice in your own subject area
> Previously completed City and Guilds 7302 or PTLLS award
> Completion of a free writing exercise (set by course tutor)
> An enthusiasm to teach and be taught.

Course Length

22 weeks x 4 hours.

What will I study

This course will build on the skills and knowledge previously acquired in the 7302 and PTLLS courses. The following units will be covered:
> Planning and enabling learning
> Principles and practice of assessment
> Developing and managing resources.

How will I learn?

The programme will be delivered using a variety of methods, however, the emphasis will be on participative exercises and discussions where learners will be encouraged to:
> Relate and reflect on their own experiences in the classroom as a teacher
> Interpret course materials and instructions in a manner appropriate to teaching their own subject area
> Identify and reflect on their own strengths and styles of delivering information and managing learners
> Use the internet, and other sources such as texts and journals, to find information related to the theory of teaching.

How will I be assessed?

Through the completion of three assessments, each of which is related to the above modules, and includes both a practical and theoretical element.The theoretical elements include:
> Researching given topics
> Recording these findings
> Explain, through a short presentation to a group of peers, what you have discovered.The practical elements include:
> Completing 30 hours teaching practice
> Being observed delivering this teaching and assessing learners
> Planning and preparing for the delivery of these sessions
> Keeping a reflective journal.Assessment is undertaken on a pass/fail basis.

Where could it lead?

Students could progress to:
> Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)

or
> Graduate Diploma in the Lifelong Learning Sector (GDTLLS).
