Sport Extended Diploma Level 3 (QCF)

This qualification is designed for anyone wanting to work in sport and leisure sector or looking to progress onto higher education. It offers an invaluable look at the opportunities, resources and work carried out across this exciting and dynamic sector and gives you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in your chosen area.

What Qualifications or experience do I need?

You must have four GCSE grades C or above (preferably including English), or have completed a very good BTEC First Diploma. You will also attend an interview and take an Initial Assessment.

How long is the course?

2 Years (full time).

What will I learn?

A variety of topics are covered including Physiology & Anatomy, Psychology, Assessing risk in sport, Sports Development, Sports Coaching, Practical Team sports and Practical Individual sports ( A total of 19 modules over two years) You will also be given the opportunity to attend an overseas sporting residential and an overseas annual ski trip, various outdoor activities, including white water rafting, cycling and canoeing. You will also learn functional skills which are English, Maths and ICT as required.

How will I learn?

A variety of learning approaches will be used and include; work-based activities, role-play and simulations, independent learning opportunities, knowledge based sessions and a work placement.

How will I be assessed?

The programme is continually assessed on the basis of assignments and practical activities.

Where could this course lead to?

Employment in leisure centres, health clubs, youth centres, fitness suites, racquet and sports clubs and entry to Higher Education.
