Safe Handling of Refrigerants Level 1

Course Description

F gas legislation and health and safety, the refrigeration cycle, system pressures, system operation, checking system pressures, recovering refrigerant, charging refrigerant and subsequent system checks. ATA Refrigerant Handler (meets EC 307/2008) or C&G 2078 assessment (depending on requirement, both qualifications are subject to approval to comply with EU 842/2006).

Entry Requirements

No previous knowledge is essential for this course however; it is desirable that the candidate has previous general automotive, or heavy goods experience in transport refrigeration or air conditioning and a suitable Lv 3 vehicle technician qualification. We can provide information and contacts should you wish to purchase new equipment in order to provide this service, either during or before the course.

What will I study

Recovery of refrigerant gas.
Storage of refrigerant gas.
Re-charging of air con or fridge system.

How will I learn?

The learning is by classroom theory, practical demonstration and formative tests. We can also supply learning materials to study before attending the course, however this will be subject to receipt of course fees.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments take place during the course and an online examination to be taken upon completion of the course.

Where could it lead?

Candidates will require this qualification to legally work on automotive air conditioning systems. After the 4th July 2010 it is illegal to attempt to work on any MAC systems or components that contain refrigerant gas without this qualification or similar DEFRA approved certificate.

Materials/Equipment Required

Stationary, PPE (boots and overalls) are required to be supplied by the candidate. Other PPE (suitable gloves and eye protection) will be available at college. Candidates may bring their own gloves and eye protection, but any safety equipment supplied by candidates will be subject to inspection by college staff, prior to use.
