Entry Requirements

Although there are no formal entry requirements to this course, candidates for the Inspection and Testing Certificate (2377-002) should be "practising electricians" (City & Guilds). Candidates should ideally have an electrical or technical background, or at least have had some recent relevant training/experience. This is due to the technical and health & safety implications of testing and an awareness of the associated hazards. This is a Level 3 qualification and candidates should ideally possess a level of basic skills commensurate with this.

Course Length

One Day 09:00 - 17:00 hours (inclusive of examination)

How will I learn?

Through a combination of electronic presentations, audiovisual materials and practical exercises. Candidate participation will be encouraged throughout. As this qualification is based upon knowledge and understanding of the IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers) 'Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment' (ISBN 0 85296 776 4), candidates will each require a copy of this publication. It is advised to study the document prior to the course, as it will be referred to throughout and the 'open book' examination based upon it. Course notes will also be supplied.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be by sample questioning and a 'hands on' testing session including record completion. Formal assessment for the 'Inspection and testing of electrical equipment' (2377-002) will be by multiple-choice on-line examination consisting of 30 questions to be completed in 1 hour. Candidates for 2377-002 will also be required to demonstrate an ability to inspect and test an item of electrical equipment and correctly complete the appropriate test forms and records.

Where could it lead?

Candidates successfully completing this course may also be interested in the following Electrical Installation qualifications (not exhaustive): City & Guilds 2381 - 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2008) City & Guilds 2391 - Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations.
