This is a thirteen-week course, consisting of one day per week training and continual assessment in College, followed by an on-line 'Applicable Building Regulations' exam taken shortly after course completion. Aimed at those with no formal electrical background, candidates will achieve a recognised qualification and a level of competence through training in order to join a 'Self Certification' scheme for defined electrical work in dwellings in order to meet the requirements of Part P (electrical safety) of the Building Regulations. Successful completion will lead to a nationally accredited Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) at level 2, being the EAL 'Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers'.
Level 2
Although there are no formal entry requirements for this course, some knowledge and practice of electrical installations in dwellings is preferred, with a minimum of competence in electrical component exchange. Candidates must also have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, and to enable completion of the learning outcomes and the external assessment. There will be a basic Key Skills initial assessment.
