This course provides certificates for all workers who are required to change any form of abrasive wheel. Under the Health & Safety at Work Act, all such workers are legally required to obtain such a certificate. The course covers the legal requirements, fitting, dressing and assembly of a range of different types of wheel. The emphasis of the course is upon practical application to ensure that wheels are correctly removed and refitted safely.

Introduction to course and issue of approved literature Legal requirements of the PUWER Regulations. Methods of marking abrasive wheels as to type and speed, methods of storing, handling and transportation of abrasive wheels. The function of components including flanges, washers, bushes and nuts. Correct methods of dressing and balancing abrasive wheels. Practical Work involving:· Testing, inspection and selection of abrasive wheels· Correct mounting procedures for abrasive wheels· Practice in balancing abrasive wheels· Practice in mounting and dressing abrasive wheels on various machines· Written question/answer session
Classroom based delivery of statutory requirements. Practical activity carried out in workshops.
Practical task and written test.
Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate acknowledging achievement in dealing with the following types of abrasive wheels:Straight-sided wheels, banded abrasive discs, cup wheels, depressed centre wheel, cutting off wheels.
PPE. Suitable practical workshop equipment i.e boots/overalls.
