Course Description

This is a dynamic programme run in partnership with Nottingham Trent University and designed to equip graduates with the skills, knowledge and understanding to be successful in the construction management and quantity surveying sectors of the construction industry. In academic terms the Foundation Degree is the equivalent to the first two years of Honours Degree, but in addition it will enhance your professional practice.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have studied to a level 3 standard NQF (National Qualification Framework i.e. Btech Natioanl Diploma/Certificate) and/or A Levels, 5 GCSEs (grade C or above, one in English) or equivalent. All applicants will be interviewed. If you are a mature learner without formal qualifications we are happy to discuss entry requirements on an individual basis.

Course Length

The Foundation Degree course takes two years full-time or three years attending college one day or one afternoon and evening a week.

What will I study

The course includes a number of modules covering the major areas of: Construction Management; Construction Technology; Project Management; Building Science and Materials; Economics; Law; Surveying; Health and Safety; Sustainability; Work-based Studies.

How will I learn?

Attendance on taught sessions, private study and research, a balance of practical skills development and knowledge requirement, and reflective work.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is a continuous process throughout the programme and takes a variety of forms. It includes essay writing, group and individual presentations, examinations/end tests, work based reflections and peer assessment.

Where could it lead?

The Foundation Degree is an award in its own right, however on successful completion of this award you could progress to a full Honours Degree 3rd Year. Following this it is possible to apply for membership of the CIOB.
