Childcare & Education Diploma Level 2

Course Description

This level 2 modular course is designed for those wishing to gain the skills and qualificatioin needed to work with children in day nurseries, schools or playgroups. The course involves attending college for 3 days a week and a childcare setting for 2 days a week.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements to be four GCSEs at grade D's or above or a Level 1 Early Years Qualification at merit or distinction and a tutor reference indicating that the candidate has the correct attributes to work with children.

Course Length

1 year (full time) includes practical experience in a childcare setting.

What will I study

Core units:
> 1. An Introduction to Working with Children
> 2. The Developing Child
> 3. Safe, Healthy & Nuturing Environment for Children
> 4. Children and Play
> 5. Communication and Professional Skills
> 6. The Child Care Pactitioner in the Workplace (practical unit).

Plus one optional unit:
> Chosen by the tutor.

How will I learn?

The units will be taught in college using a range of methods including interactive on-line exercises, practical and traditional taught lessons. On-line learning materials are available.

The workplace supervisor and college staff will support the training in the placement.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be in the form of written assignments, assessment in the workplace and a multiple choice paper.

Where could it lead?

Successful completion of the course will give you a recognised qualification for work with children in day nurseries, schools or in private homes as Nannies.

This course can lead to employment as a nursery assistant or for those who have high grades and excellent reports from placement you may progress to a level 3 full time course.

Uniform - ordered from college.
An acceptable Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check - forms available at Student Support Services. Please discuss this with staff if you have any concerns.
