Course Description

Description
Apprenticeships are training programmes for 16 plus who have left education or are already in employment. This framework will provide apprentices with a secure understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in school environments.

Entry Requirements
A good standard of education and genuine commitment to work with children in a school environment. Apprentices need to be employed as a learning assistant or teaching assistant.

Course Length
A Teaching Assistant Advanced apprenticeship will take 24 months to complete. Day release training takes place at college.

What will I study?
Advanced Apprenticeship Framework content includes:
CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.
Functional skills level 2 Maths, level 2 English, and level 2 ICT
Employers Rights & Responsibilities (ERR)
Personal Learning & thinking skills (PTLS)

The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist support for Teaching and Learning in Schools will include studying the following topics:
Development
Safeguarding
Communication and professional relationships with children and young people
Schools as organisations
Support learning activities
Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour
Developing professional relationships with adults
Equality, diversity and inclusion
Support assessment for learning.
Health & safety
Working as part of a team
Plus two optional units

How will I learn?
The underpinning knowledge is delivered using a range of methods, including tutorials, group work, simulation, projects, and reflective accounts.

How will I be assessed?
Direct observation of practice in a school environment. Completion of portfolio and professional discussions. External testing for functional skills.

Where could it lead?
Progression to Higher Education e.g HLTA, Foundation Degree
