    Description
    Apprenticeships are training programmes for 16 plus who have left education or are already in employment. This framework will provide apprentices with a secure understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in school environments.

    Entry Requirements
    A good standard of education and genuine commitment to work with children in a school environment. Apprentices need to be employed as a learning assistant or teaching assistant.

    Course Length
    A Teaching Assistant Advanced apprenticeship will take 24 months to complete. Day release training takes place at college.

    What will I study?
    Advanced Apprenticeship Framework content includes:
    CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.
    Functional skills level 2 Maths, level 2 English, and level 2 ICT
    Employers Rights & Responsibilities (ERR)
    Personal Learning & thinking skills (PTLS)

    The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist support for Teaching and Learning in Schools will include studying the following topics:
    Development
    Safeguarding
    Communication and professional relationships with children and young people
    Schools as organisations
    Support learning activities
    Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour
    Developing professional relationships with adults
    Equality, diversity and inclusion
    Support assessment for learning.
    Health & safety
    Working as part of a team
    Plus two optional units

    How will I learn?
    The underpinning knowledge is delivered using a range of methods, including tutorials, group work, simulation, projects, and reflective accounts.

    How will I be assessed?
    Direct observation of practice in a school environment. Completion of portfolio and professional discussions. External testing for functional skills.

    Description
    Apprenticeships are training programmes for 16+ who have left education or are already in employment. They offer young people the opportunity to start their career through a combination of learning options and work experience. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn is essential. A full initial assessment and diagnostic test is undertaken.

    Entry Requirements
    A good standard of education. A genuine commitment to work with animals. To achieve the framework, apprentices need to be working at a supervisory level.

    Course Length
    An Apprenticeship in Animal Care will take 24 months to complete. Day release training takes place at Stephenson College, Nottingham, dedicated equine and animal care training centre which is designed to give students hands-on experience and access to relevant resources.

    What will I study?
    Level 3 Diploma in Work- based Animal Care (City & Guilds)
    Functional Skills
    Mathematics Level 2
    English Level 2
    Emergency first Aid
    Employment rights and responsibilities booklet.

    The level 3 Diploma in Work-based Animal Care will include studying the following topics:
    Control and restrain animals
    Developing personal performance and maintaining relationships
    Promoting and maintaining the health and well being of animals
    Establishing and maintaining animals within their accommodation
    Plan, monitor and evaluate the accommodation of animals
    Ensuring your own actions reduce risk to health and safety.

    In addition to this apprentices select one of the following pathways:

    Dog Grooming
    Animal Care and Welfare
    Employment Responsibilities and Rights – it is important that the apprentice is aware of the following issues in the context of his/her own employment:

    Course Level - 3
    Description
    Apprenticeships are training programmes for 16 plus who have left education or are already in employment. Apprentices will attend college one day a week to achieve their framework. A full initial assessment & diagnostic test is undertaken prior to entry. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn is essential.
    Entry Requirements

    Course Length
    An Advanced Apprenticeship in Early Years will take up to 24 months to complete.
    What will I study?
    Advanced Apprenticeship Framework includes:
    • Level 3 Diploma for Children & Young People’s workforce (QCF)
    • Functional skills level 2 Maths & English
    • Employers Rights & Responsibilities (ERR)

    (From April 6th 2011 Advanced Apprentices will be required to complete Functional skills level 2 ICT and Personal Learning & Thinking skills (PLTS)

    It is made up of a mixture of core mandatory units, mandatory pathway units and optional units, based on skills or knowledge.

    The Level 3 Diploma for Children & Young People’s workforce will include studying the following topics:
    • Learning & development
    • Promote creativity and creative learning
    • Working with parents, families and carers
    • Behaviour
    • Equality & inclusion
    • Professional practice
    • Physical activity and movement skills
    • Care for the physical and nutritional needs of babies and young children
    How will I learn?
    The underpinning knowledge is delivered using a range of methods, including tutorials, group work, simulation, and projects. Practical activities will play a central role within the course.
    How will I be assessed?
    Observation in the workplace. Completion of portfolio. Tasks such as case studies, designing leaflets, written questions. External testing for functional skills.

    Course Level - 3

    Description
    Apprenticeships are nationally designed training programmes funded for 16+ who have left education or are already in employment. They offer the opportunity to start a career through a combination of learning options and work experience. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are looked for although full initial assessment and diagnostic testing is undertaken.
    Entry Requirements
    Candidates are required to have a good standard of education. Level 2 NVQ or a Diploma in Horse Care would be advantageous.
    Course Length
    An Advanced Apprenticeship in Horse Care will take up to 24 months to complete, however this is depending on the age and experience of the apprentice.
    Day release training takes place at Stephenson Colleges dedicated equine training centre which is designed to give students hands-on experience and access to relevant resources.
    What will I study?

    - Level 3 Diploma in Horse Care and Management (EQL)
    - Functional Skills
    - Mathematics Level 2
    - English Level 2
    - Equine Employees Rights and Responsibilities (LANTRA)
    - Level 3 Award in Business for the Environment and Land-Based sector (NPTC)

    The level 3 Diploma in Work-based Horse Care will include studying the following topics.
    - Receive a horse and carry out an initial assessment
    - Plan diets and implement feeding regimes for horses
    - Monitor and maintain stocks of feeding and bedding
    - Promote and maintain the health and well being of horses
    - Deliver basic health care and treatment to horses
    - Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security of the workplace

    - Manage your own resources

    In addition to this apprentices will select one of the following pathways:

    - Horse Care
    - Breeding
    - Horse Care with Riding

    Functional Skills are a requirement of the Horse care Framework. These will be at Level 2 in Mathematics and English building on skills you have developed previously.
    Prior achievement may be considered subject to currency
    Level 3 Award in Business for the Environment and Land- Based Sector.
    Candidates are required to complete one assignment to achieve this award.
    Employment Rights and Responsibilities – (ERR): This consists of a workbook with a number of tasks with short answer questions. All learners need to know and understand:-
    - Employment law and legislation (health and safety, discrimination and equality)
    - Representative bodies
    - Industry knowledge
    - Progression opportunities
    - Sources of information on chosen industry
    - Code of Practice

    How will I be assessed?
    Continuous assessment, observation in the workplace and a portfolio of evidence.
    Functional Skills assessment will be externally set examinations and opportunities to take these are available at regular intervals throughout your apprenticeship.

    Advanced Apprenticeship for IT Application Specialist

    Description
    Apprenticeships are nationally designed training programmes free for anybody aged 16 years + that have left education or are already in employment. They offer the opportunity to start a career through a combination of learning and work experience. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are critical, although full initial assessments and diagnostics are undertaken.
    Entry Requirements
    All candidates that apply for an apprenticeship programme are required to sit a Literacy and Numeracy assessment. These assessments determine your suitability for the programme. Previous qualifications, experience and attitude are all factors that also contribute to towards gaining an Apprenticeship. You will also discuss your current IT skills and qualifications with the assessor as this course is not suitable for beginners in IT but requires existing level 2 IT skills in Office software and email as a minimum.
    Course length
    An Advanced Apprenticeship in IT will take up to 24 months to complete
    What will I study?
    Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills (ITQ)
    3 mandatory units:
    1. Improving productivity using IT – a level 3 project

    Functional Skills

    All Apprenticeships now require you to achieve qualifications in Functional Skills (instead of Key Skills). For the IT Apprentice level 3 you will need to complete Functional Skills in Mathematics , English and ICT at level 2. Assessments will be done by external set examinations and opportunities to take these will be available at regular intervals throughout your Apprenticeship.

    How will I learn?
    Your trainer/assessor will visit you on a regular basis (every 4-6 weeks) in your workplace to help you complete your Apprenticeship programme. You will be expected to keep a portfolio of any IT evidence you collect throughout your training. An individual learning plan will guide you through the units with support and feedback form your trainer. Action plans will also be drawn up to advise you on what type of evidence to collect. Your trainer/assessor will be available throughout the week via email or phone to advise as necessary. You will be encouraged to submit IT evidence via email to your trainer/assessor.
