Maintenance Operations
Apprenticeships are training programmes for 16-24 year olds who have left education or are already in employment. They offer young people the opportunity to start their career through a combination of learning options and work experience. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential; you will also undertake an initial assessment and diagnostic testing.

Three trade’s areas need to be covered
Carpentry (two units must be taken)
Maintaining Non-Structural Carpentry Work
Maintaining Non-Structural and Structural Components
Repairing, Replacing and Renewing Gates, Posts and Fencing
Replacing Glazing to Windows and Doors
Painting & Decorating (two units must be taken)
Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller
Hanging Coverings (standard papers)
Preparing Background Surfaces for Painting & Decorating
Plumbing
Installing Basic Plumbing
Tiling (two units must be taken)
Tiling Wall and Floor Surfaces
Removing and Renewing Floor Screeds
Preparing Background Surfaces for Tiling
Plastering (both units must be taken)
Preparing Background surfaces for Plasterwork
Applying Finishing Plaster to Background Surfaces
Roofing (two units must be taken)
Maintaining Slate and Tile Roofing
Repairing Roof Sheeting and Cladding Systems
Repairing and Maintaining Built Up Bituminous Roofing
Removing and Repairing Eaves and Verge Finishing’s
Bricklaying (one unit needs to be taken) Repair and Maintain Masonry Structures
Repair Basic Stonemasonry Structures
External Drainage Laying Domestic Drainage
Assessment:
Continuous assessment plus a portfolio of evidence.Functional Skills
All apprenticeships now require you to achieve qualifications in Functional Skills (instead of Key Skills). These will be at level 1 or 2 depending on the particular apprenticeship scheme you are taking. Functional skills are in Mathematics, English and ICT and these will build on the skills you have developed previously. With the exception of English speaking and listening which is assessed internally, assessment will be by externally set examinations and opportunities to take these are available at regular intervals throughout your apprenticeship.Employment Responsibilities & Rights - It is important that the apprentice is aware of the following issues in the context of his/her own employment:
