Frequently Asked Questions

What is life at Stephenson College (Nottingham) really like?

Well it's far more than an education; it's a valuable experience. It offers students a dynamic and stimulating environment and the opportunity to meet new people and gain more independence. Students learn in a productive and supportive environment with people of all ages. Your daughter or son will be allocated a personal tutor at the start of their programme. They will help them settle in and provide general guidance and encouragement through regular tutorial reviews.

Where will my daughter/son go if they have any problems?

There are College Councillors available to speak confidentially to students and will help them with any problems. Students can also speak to their personal tutor who will be allocated at the start of the course.

Does the college help with travel arrangements?

For students who are unemployed and receiving an EMA, we may be able to help with travel expenses to work and college.

What is EMA?

Educational Maintenance Allowances are available to qualifying 16-18 year olds. The amount of weekly allowance depends on household income, and is means tested. Students can apply for EMA whilst in year 11 at school.

Do students have to pay any fees?

As long as students meet the eligibility requirements for an Apprenticeship or Train to Gain, the course is free.

What are Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are a popular alternative for many school leavers and offer employment based qualifications, which allow young adults to earn while they learn. Trainees study NVQs but also gain accreditation for essential Key Skills. Stephenson College in Nottingham specialises in the delivery of Apprenticeships.
